the church vs. galileo
Galileo had some differences with church. He said that the Earth went around the Sun changed everything since he was contradicting the teaching of the Church. Some of the Church's mathematicians observed he was clearly correct, but many members of the church believed that he must be wrong. Someone thought his observations to be false since they would contradict the Bible. The lady who went against Galileo quoted a passage in Joshua where God causes the Sun to stand still and lengthen the day. This couldn't mean anything other than that the Sun went around the Earth. Galileo was a religious man and he agreed the Bible wouldn't be wrong but the Bible could make mistakes. Galileo created "Dialogue on the Two Great Systems of the World" years after but the church banned that.
