A printing press is a device used to print ink onto paper and make copies of text or pictures. Around the late 1430s, a German man named, Johann Gutenberg, used and invented the printing press. before they invented printing press they used something called woodblock printing. Woodblock printing involved letters or images cut on blocks of wood and the block would be dipped in ink and then stamped onto a piece of paper. How printing press works is blocks are all inked and then a sheet of paper is laid on the blocks and then it passes through a roller to ensure the ink is transferred to the paper. Printing press got popular over time and spread to Europe and eventually all over the world. Gutenberg's press could produce books fast and with little effort, bookmaking became less expensive due to not using expensive material. This allowed more people to buy more reading materials and in results become more educated.
